| Based on the realistic background that China's OFDI increases rapid and China needs to enhance its division of labor in the global value chain(GVC)through strengthening international cooperation.It analyzes the mechanism of the impact of OFDI on the global value chain division of labor,and analyzes whether China's OFDI will affect the China's division of labor in the global value chain and the extent of its impact,which is of great significance for enhancing China's division of labor status in the global value chain.This paper firstly calculates and analyzes the GVC division of labor status index of China's overall,three major industries and manufacturing industry based on the value-added trade nuclear algorithm and the construction of the GVC division status index.Then,this paper analyzes the theoretical basis for the influence of OFDI on the GVC division of labor status,the factors that influence OFDI's impact on the GVC division of labor status,the transmission path of OFDI affecting the GVC division of labor status,and the mechanism of the impact of OFDI on the GVC division of labor status along different transmission paths.Finally,based on the annual data from 2003 to 2016,this paper uses multiple regression model and panel data model,and uses least squares method,two-stage least squares method and two-step optimal generalized moment estimation method to empirically analyze the impact of OFDI on the GVC division of labor status of China's overall,three major industries and manufacturing industry,and further adopting the threshold model,using two-step optimal generalized moment estimation method to empirically analyze the threshold effects of host country's market scale and host country's technical level upon the impact of OFDI on the GVC division of labor status of China's overall,three major industries and manufacturing industry.The results show that China climbed from the downstream position of the global value chain to the middle position in 2000-2017.China's three major industries have improved their position in the global value chain,with the primary industry climbing from the middle to the upstream,the secondary industry climbing from the downstream to the middle and upper reaches,the tertiary industry climbing from the middle and lower reaches to the middle position.China's manufacturing industry has also improved its position in the global value chain division of labor,climbing from the downstream to the middle and upper reaches,among which the high-tech manufacturing industry has climbed to the upper reaches,the middle-tech manufacturing industry and the lowtech manufacturing industry have climbed to the middle and upper reaches.The scale,areas,policies,and host country conditions of OFDI will affect a country's GVC division of labor status.OFDI affects the process upgrade,product upgrade,function upgrade and the chain upgrade of the home country industry by affecting the production process,input and output efficiency,product quality,product upgrading,technology level,marketing capability,and industrial upgrading of the home country industry,which in turn affects the division of labor of the home country in the global value chain.Different investment motives OFDI through the use of marginal industrial transfer effects,dynamic comparative advantage effects,factor optimization allocation effects,production factors fill-in effects,reverse technology spillover effects,technology research and development results feedback effects,inter-industry spillover effects,product upgrade effects,"investment-export" driven effect,competitive effect,brand spillover effect,etc.,affecting the process upgrade,product upgrade,function upgrade and chain upgrade of the home country industry,thus affecting the home country's global value chain division of labor.OFDI has a significant positive effect on the promotion of the division of labor status of China's overall,three major industries,manufacturing industry's overall and the different technology categories manufacturing industries in the global value chain.The increasing of advanced human capital,technological innovation capabilities,material capital density,export scale,foreign direct investment,and economic freedom will also enhance the division of labor status of China in the global value chain.In addition,the role of OFDI in the promotion of China's GVC division of labor status will be affected by the host country's market scale and the host country's technical level.The impact of OFDI on China's GVC division of labor status has the threshold effect of the host country's market scale and the host country's technical level.With the host country market' scale and the host country' technology level exceeding the corresponding thresholds,the role of OFDI in enhancing the GVC division of labor status of China is increasing.However,when the scale of the host country market exceeds the second threshold,the role of OFDI in the promotion of the GVC division of labor status of the tertiary industry is weakened;When the scale of the host country market exceeds the threshold,the role of OFDI in the promotion of the GVC division of labor status of the high-tech manufacturing industry is also weakened.When the technical level of the host country exceeds the threshold,the role of OFDI in the promotion of the GVC division of labor status of the tertiary industry is weakened.When the technical level of the host country exceeds the second threshold,the role of OFDI in promoting the GVC division of labor status of the secondary industry,the manufacturing industry and the high-tech manufacturing industry is also weakened.Finally,based on the mechanism analysis and empirical analysis of the impact of OFDI on the GVC division of labor status,this paper proposes policy recommendations to enhance China's GVC of labor status from the aspects of investment scale,investment areas,investment policy and the host country conditions. |
