A Research Of Connection On Ideas Of Science And Western Architecture In Pre-industrial Era

The most influential aspect of the West to modern world is science and its ideas,but in context of Chinese research,the connection of architecture and science is still wandering in dense mist,waiting for inquiring and illustrating.This research considers the figure-ground relation between ideas of science and architecture of pre-industrial era.Based on differentiate between transcendental and cognitive abstraction in transition of organic cosmos to mechanical universe,this research traces the intention and approach of pre-industrial architectural knowledge in the image ground of whole in knowledge system in four transition periods in western history.This research is going to draw a transition image of architectural theory intention according to metamorphosis of cosmology and epistemology.In a traditional organic cosmos,the prime opposition of knowledge system is liberal arts and mechanical arts,in which frame intention of architectural theory was compared to higher knowledge of liberal arts,which are absolute,enlightening and eternal.But in modem mechanical universe knowledge frame,another catalogue of science and fine arts as substitution of liberal and mechanical arts,in which the approach of architectural theory transit to cognitive abstract knowledge,which is relative,accumulative and temporary.In the image of mechanical universe reframed in scientific revoliution,the intention and ahstract approach to architectural theory has been essentially changed,and the transcend terminal of universal knowledge directed to different branches of rational ethics,imaginary visionary and technical determinism.In the conclusion,there are summary responds to the four questions and crucial consequence of the essential transition:methodology of positivism based on cognitive abstract promoted professional scientific research on isolated disciplines,which was aggravated by Industrial Revolution,finally lead historical architectures and traditional values authorized by spiritual absolutism of gods to dead ends.
