Practice Of Synchronous Intubation With The Modified Probe On The Repair Of Canalicular Laceration

Objective To evaluate the intraoperative and postoperative effects of lacrimal duct anastomosis by a modified probe.Methods Forty-nine patients with traumatic lower canalicular laceration were included in this study.A modified probe designed in a manner of synchronous intubation and the traditional pigtail probe were used in repair surgeries.Effects of operations were observed intraoperatively,and clinical assessments were performed at 3 months and 12 months after surgeries.Results The whole time of intubation was 10.05± 1.51 minutes in the experimental group and 32.30±4.70 minutes in the control group(t=23.63,P<0.01),and the average time for all the operations was 32.91 ±3.98 minutes in the experimental group and 53.74±5.48 minutes in the control group(t=15.71,P<0.01).The rates of anatomic and functional success were 100%(22 patients)and 90.9%(20 patients)in the experimental group,and both of them were significantly increased compared with 70.4%(19 patients)and 59.3%(16 patients)in the control group(X2=5.77,P<0.05;X2=6.23,P<0.05).Punctal dilators were used 13 times in the control group and 18 times in the experimental group(X2=5.91,P<0.05);nevertheless,punctal incision was excluded.In the two groups,the rates of anatomic and functional success were recorded at 3 months after operations,and the rates of primary success and final success were observed during operations,the complications showing no statistical significance(P>0.05).Conclusion The modified probe provides a way to accomplish synchronous intubations,simplify operation procedures,and improve the success rate of surgery.
