Purpose: Little information is available on the clinical characteristics and outcomes of Hodgkin's lymphoma in Chinese patients. We analysed the clinical features, therapeutic outcome and prognostic factors of Shanghai Chinese patients as well as trying to establish a new risk model in order to identify a subset of patients at risk for better risk-adapted therapeutic strategy in the future.Patients and methods: Patient with newly diagnostic Hodgkin's lymphoma from January 2000 and August 2014 were recruited.A retrospective analysis of these patients was performed. Results: 150 Chinese patients(94 males and 56 females)were identified and median age was 30(range 15-91).Nodular sclerosis was the most common histological subtype(61.3%).With the completion of initial treatment including radiotherapy,73.65% of patients achieved complete remission. The estimated 5-year event-free survival(EFS)of the entire cohort was 61.1% while OS and DFS at 5 years were 84.7% and 78.8%,respectively.In multivariate analysis,B symptoms;extranodal involvement and IPS?3 remained as independent prognostic factors for all patients with respect to primary end point(EFS).With the interim imaging evaluation, patients who did not reach CRi(n=98,66.2%)had a significantly lower EFS,DFS and CR at completion of initial treatment than those who did(5-y EFS: 45.7% vs 89.6,P<0.0001;5-y DFS: 71.0% vs 85.9%,P=0.045;the rate of CR: 60.2% vs 100%,p<0.001,respectively).A new risk model based on the combination of traditional risk factors and imaging interim evaluation allowed the stratification of patients in three prognostic classes, reaching a 5-y EFS probability of 100%,83.1% and 33.1%,respectively(P<0.0001).Conclusion: General clinical features are comparable to Caucasian patients, while our treatment outcomes are slightly inferior to that reported in western patients. With the increasing development of imaging technique, traditional risk factors remain their impact on prognosis. The new risk assessement model combining traditional factors and interim evaluation warrantes further validation studies.
