Travel has an important place in the life of the ancients,which is an important way of people understanding the outside world.People began to record travel things since per-Qin Dynasty.Although there is no a travel record,travel records have become an important part of historiography in per-Qin dynasty.Travel records were born along with people understood outside world in Han dynasty.Travel record has become a kind of important document,which cannot be ignored in the Wei,Jin,and North and South dynasties.The Tang and Song period is for very key in travel records process,there had been a great deal of travel records which primarily include Buddhists travel records,diplomatic exchanges travel records and literati travel records.These travel records have been perfect and enriched.Thereafter,the development of travel records was oriented towards Tang and Song's travel records,and had the profound influence on the later travel records.The key to resolving the problem of travel records lies in research the Tang and Song's travel records.Much of travel records were lost,and what is not lost scattered and difficult to trace.So academic circles have not full study on travel records,and some study of travel records is still inadequate.Especially the research of the literature and ideological culture is still very weak.In the paper,the author has explained comprehensively Tang and Song's travel records form the perspective of literature and culture.What is the characteristic of the Tang and Song's travel records?How is the travel records linked to literature and historiography?Which cultural issues were reflected by Tang and Song's travel records?These issues are worth studying.The author discusses this question mainly through five aspects.Chapter one mainly discusses the headstream of travel records.We consider travel records took its rise from per-Qin,established in Han dynasty,constantly growing in the Wei,Jin,and North and South dynasties.In the second part,we analyzes the style characteristics of travel records and the internal interactive relationship between travel records and literature,travel records and historiography by Tang and Song's travel records.The article holds that travel records had three elements such as whereabouts,landscape and travel experience.These elements were presented narrative.The linguistic style of travel records is based mainly on prose style.There was more difference in style.The travel records are normally associated with journey records and geographical records.The tradition of historiography writing has a strong influence on the travel records.Chapter three is concentrated on humanism tendency of literati travel records in the Song dynasty with the development of literature and cultural as background.Our main concern will be with humanism tendency,the records of travel experience and poem-theory,academic characteristics based on Ru Shu Ji by Lu You.Chapter four mainly expounds diplomatic exchanges travel records which reflects the conception of the discrimination between the Chinese race and foreign races,and the view of the external world in the Tang and Song dynasty.The diplomatic exchanges travel records shows that the conception of Chinese race and foreign races in the Tang and song.Chapter five includes mainly studying on Buddhists travel records.We are going to focus on two cultural phenomenons that Japanese monks who came to China go on a pilgrimage and Chinese monks traveling to India to improve their Buddhist learning.Although both of them fall into religious practices,they reflect different national position and mind of social communication.It follows that the position of monks in the transferring of religious culture.
