A Study On The Records Of The People’s Livelihood In The Travel Records Of The Western Regions In The Medieval Time Of China

After Zhang Qian emptied the Western Regions,the connection between the Mainland and the Western Regions has been strengthened.During this period,many officials,scholars and monks who went to the Western Regions recorded what they saw and heard in person or by others on their journey to the West after returning home.This also led to the birth of the Journal of Western Regions.Journal of the Western Regions is not only a splendid treasure in China’s cultural heritage,but also the first-hand material for the study of the history of the Western Regions.The travels of the Western Regions not only show the history,geography and Humanities of the Western Regions,but also show the real life of the people in the Western Regions.Its influence has far exceeded the original meaning of travel notes.This paper focuses on the analysis of the content of people’s livelihood in the Journal of the Western Regions,and explores the reasons for the differences in people’s livelihood,as well as the ideas implied in the compilation of the Journal by the author of the Journal of the Western Regions.The article is divided into four parts.The first part investigates the background of the travels in the Western Regions of medieval China.During this period,the identity of Westerners changed from monks to officials.The second part examines the content of people’s livelihood in the travel notes of the Western Regions.It can be divided into three economic forms: farming type,nomadic type and mixed type.The third part is also the focus of this article,mainly from the geographical environment,the strength of the regime,economic factors and social environment four aspects of the causes of livelihood differences.Finally,while analyzing the differences of people’s livelihood,we can also see the author’s ideas implied in the writing of the journal in different times and cultural backgrounds.It is mainly manifested in the humanistic feelings of people-oriented,the thought of novelty hunting and the thought of using for reference.The essential attributes of "seeking truth" and "seeking goodness" in history.The social value of the two is embodied in "practicing the world and making use of it" The study of livelihood issues in the Journal of Western Regions in this paper hopes to provide some reference for the improvement and improvement of people’s livelihood in China.
