Yangzhou Storytelling(Yangzhou Pinghua)is a living art of storytelling and oral literature,which is the continuation and development of the storytelling in Song and Yuan period.Yangzhou storytelling as an oral literature was an oral tradition principally,from ear to ear-mouth to mouth.This mode of transmission determines its spread is limited in scope,often restricted by space-time.In addition,because people ignored folk literature,so the research on Yangzhou storytelling is very late.As far as the current situation of the research is concerned,collection and reorganization of literature provides the basis and foundation for the research,but which also has its shortcomings.Meanwhile there are some achievements and some shortcoming in the research itself.Some scholars often consciously or unconsciously used the methods of written literature research to study Yangzhou storytelling,which ignores the oral heritage features and performance characteristics of Yangzhou storytelling.Starting from the oral tradition,the researchers may be able to get a more realistic conclusion on Yangzhou storytelling.This dissertation is divided into five parts,Preface section introduces the research status of Yangzhou storytelling,summed up the achievements and shortcomings of Yangzhou storytelling studies,indicating that the object and purpose of this research study.The first chapter introduces the collection and reorganization of Yangzhou storytelling.Because Yangzhou storytelling have no fixed text form,so people study it must begin with the collection and collation of Yangzhou storytelling.At different times,the text form of Yangzhou storytelling are differences,there are three text forms,written records,sound records and video records.These three text forms have different effects on Yangzhou storytelling study.The second chapter discusses the issues of education and heritage of Yangzhou storytelling.In order to better understand the oral tradition of Yangzhou storytelling,I try to restore the entire living environment of Yangzhou storytelling,which includes artists learning and education,the book market,the audience and other performers.In this chapter analyzes the changes of Yangzhou storytelling’s education in the old and the new era,where in early times the education of Yangzhou storytelling is the traditional family-style education,but after the founding of the traditional family model of education gradually change into school education and mentoring education combined mode.The two educational models both have advantages and disadvantages.In addition,the listeners also have a very important influence on storytellers.The third and fourth are about the formula analysis of Yangzhou storytelling.Formula plays positive and constructive roles for both the listeners and storytellers.These formulaic expressions and themes help storytellers to memorize the content and expression of Yangzhou storytelling repertoire,which also contribute to reproduce new texts and stories.
