The Study On Terminology Generalization From The Memetic Perspective

Memes theory holds that all evolutionary systems have blind variations of copying units,some of which are selectively retained and others selectively eliminated.The terminology generalization can be seen as part of the evolution of terminology.The term is the basic copy unit of that evolution and promotes the evolution by its variation and selection.In this thesis,the research on the generalization of terms focuses on two parts:variation and selection.Disscuss the way of generalization variation,the relation between form-meaning features and general probability,quantification of selection results,the selection criteria,and how to apply the research results of generalization to the application field.This thesis is divided into seven chapters.Chapter 1 is an introduction to the study,including the thesis,the current research situation,the research perspective,the method material,and so on.This part expounds the guiding role of meme theory in the study of terminology generalization and determines the research framework of the whole thesis.Chapter 2 shows the way of generalization.The variation of the semantic,form and function of the term generalization is described.Researches shows that the semantic level of the term generalization is dominated by variations.The form of term is mainly replicated,and its function is mainly on value-added.Chapter 3 explores the law of the term "generalization force" from the meaning type of the term.Research shows whether the term possesses generalization force is closely related to its characteristics.A term with shorter word-length,concise structure and verb characteristic is easier to possess generalization force.A term with a high degree of awareness of the public in semantic terms is more likely to have generalization force.Chapter 4 is about the difference of generalization force among the different terms.The variation of generalization terms in degree of generalization and life cycle is the result of selection.From the synchronic and diachronic perspective,the differences among quantitative terms of generalization.At the synchronic level,the term "strength of generalization force" is considered synthetically with three parameters,generalization frequency,generalization breadth and generalization diversity.At the diachronic level,the term "persistence of generalization force" is depended on time-using quantization.Chapter 5 discusses the selection criteria of terminology generalization.From the perspectives of social environment,host intention and language environment,the selection criteria of the different generation of the differences in terms are expounded.Chapter 6 is about the application of terminology generalization in Chinese lexicography and second language teaching.The strength and persistence of generalization force are applied to the qualitative inclusion and ordering of dictionary generalization.Try to apply the theoretical summary of terminological generalization to the second language teaching.Chapter 7 makes a conclusion of this thesis and draws up the plan of the next research.
