The Battle of Nomonhan,i.e.Battles of Khalkhin Gol,was prosecuted between Japan and Manchukuo versus Soviet and Mongolia, along the border between Mongolia and China. As one of the most important incidents in the studies of the history of northern nationalities, the Battle of Nomonhan received a lot of attention, andlenty of research on Battles of Nomonhan have been done in the past. However, most of these are concerned with the battle itself, that is,the cause, procedure, consequence and the impact of the Battle. But there is few research which concerns the history of Mongolian People's Revolutionary Army before the war broke out. This article uses Russian,English, and Mongolian(new and old Mongolian script)archives to analyze the historical transformation and development of Mongolian People's Revolutionary Army between 1925 and 1939,in the hope of roughing out the framework of the Battle of Nomonhan before it began.First of all,the thesis illustrates the transformation from militia to the standing army.Faced with the internal and external crisis,Mongolia started to accelerate the development of the standing army, and urged a series of reforms in the organizational structure. After several years of the reform, the command system, the mechanism of military equipment, the militia institution and the educational system of the Army had been perfected in the early 1930s,accomplishing the goal of promoting the militia to the standing army and forming the mixed system in which the regular army and local forces coexisted.Besides, through the analysis of the mission completed by Ulan Bolong and the military band, the thesis discusses the running of revolutionism education in Mongolian People's Revolutionary Army. Then,it substantially investigates some elements of the expansion of the Army during the 1930s and the military assistance from Soviet to the Army, especially its command system,i.e.several historical turns of tanistry and duopoly system. It also examines the specific measures taken in the course of expansion during the late 1930s,including rectifying the Army, expanding the staff, implementing the system of military rank and purchasing weapons. It attempts to analyze the general situation of the Army receiving the command of Soviet.Aimed to supplementing the previous research,it also extends Soviet's military assistance to the Army in borrowing money, training, sending consultants and technicians and weapons from 1920s to 1930s.At last, the thesis elaborates the problem and resolution process faced with the conscription system, the training of the cadre and carrying out the measures for military service from 1925 to 1939.At the same time,it explains comprehensively the formulation and running of the compensation system for ones who perform military service and their family.
