A Study On The Ceremonial Language Of The Military Ritual And The Auspicious Ritual In The Zhou Dynasty

The Western Zhou Dynasty is in the the heyday of the rite-musiccivilization,which requires people's actions and speeches to conform to the standard of etiquette.Ceremonial language refers to the speeches in the rituals and the requirements of the speech in their lives,which as a part of the rite embodys the significance of ritual.In Zhou Dynasty people regarded sacrificial activities and military activities as the important thing in state affairs,so this paper takes military ritual and the auspicious ritual in the Zhou Dynasty as the reseach object.The first part is the study of the ceremonial language in the Zhou Dynasty of the military ritual.There is few record about the military ritual in the transmitted literature,and the record the conquest ritual is more fewer.So the first step of the research on the ceremonial language of the military ritual is collecting the information of the military ritual in the Zhou Dynast from the bronze inscription,and classifying these information according to the age of these bronzes to find out these historical facts,and then summarying the program of the conquestritual.Secondly,I collected the ceremonial languageof the military ritual from excavated texts and transmitted literature,then divided the these ceremonial languages into two categories according to the program of the conquestritual.Lastly I combined the ceremonial language and the conquestritual to present the application,the content and the meaning of the ceremonial language in the conquestritual.The second part is the study on the ceremonial language of the auspicious ritual in the Zhou Dynasty,including the ceremonial language that was used in the ancestor sacrifice ritual and the ritual of praying for rain.The application of ceremonial language for the emperor and the one for the scholar bureaucrat are two research fields in the ceremonial language of auspicious ritual.Firstly,I summed up the program of the ancestor sacrifice ritual,and payed special attention to the program of the emperor's ritual of ancestor worship which has no record in the book of Yi Li.Secondly,I collected the ceremonial language of ancestor sacrifice ritual,and analysed its significance in the ritual according to the record in the transmitted literature.Lastly,I noted the poems poetry which used in the ancestor sacrifice ritual is the indirect ceremonial language.In the study on the ceremonial language in the ritual of praying for rain and the ancestor worship,I payed attention to the record of the action of praying for rain from the excavated texts.Then I summed up the program of the ritual of praying for rain from the transmitted literature.Lastly I collected the ceremonial language in the ritual of praying for rain,and payed attention on the situation that the ceremonial language was used in the makeshift ritual.Ceremonial language has significance meaning as a part of ritual.The most part of ceremonial language and its ritual meaning had been losted,and only a small portion of which was preserved after the falling of ceremony time.This dissertation collecteted ceremonial language from excavated texts and transmitted literature,aimed at presenting the program of the ritual and analysises its significance in the ritual.
