The purpose of this thesis is to provide a contrastive study on Giving ditransitive construction in both Chinese and Korean languages from the perspective of the"Construction grammar".The central meaning of Giving ditransitive construction in both Chinese and Korean languages is "intentional giving transfer":the agent argument acts to cause transfer of an object to a recipient. All the languages have events of transfer, but for the same semantic expression, they adopt different linguistic manifestations, according to the characteristics of their own linguistic structure. In Chinese, the typical Giving ditransitive construction is the double-object construction, namely "X+V+Y+Z".In Korean, the most representative ditransitive construction is the dative construction, namely "X(?)[ga]+Y(?)[ege]+Z(?)[eul]+V"Moreover, both the languages extend from the central meaning of Giving ditransitive construction to metaphorical extension categories. The central meaning represents a concrete, actual transfer. The meaning of the metaphorical extension categories can be explained as the extension from this central meaning to the abstract transfer. This thesis mainly explores the central meaning of Giving ditransitive construction in both Chinese and Korean languages, and conducts contrastive studies on the extension from the central meaning to other metaphorical extension categories meaning. This thesis is divided into six chapters. The first chapter researches the ditransitive construction in both Chinese and Korean languages, and summarizes the contrastive studies on the ditransitive construction in the two languages. The second chapter introduces Goldberg’s construction grammar theory research method applied in this thesis and explains the advantages of the construction grammar and the relationship between the construction and verbs. The construction grammar theory is applied to the research of Giving ditransitive construction in both Chinese and Korean languages. The third chapter explains the definition of a ditransitive construction in both Chinese and Korean languages and the semantic characteristics of the participants. The ditransitive construction includes double-object construction and the dative construction, but the existence of the double-object construction in Korean is always a controversial problem. The thesis summarizes this problem and conducts a contrastive study based on the perspective adopted here. The fourth chapter discusses the central meaning of Giving ditransitive construction in both Chinese and Korean languages and the categories of the polysemy links;explains the differences between Giving ditransitive construction of the typical case in both Chinese and Korean languages and explains the differences pragmatics or semantics between the constructions existing in Chinese and Korean languages. And finally also compares the central meaning of Giving ditransitive construction in both Chinese and Korean languages. The fifth chapter discusses the extension from the central meaning of the double-object construction "X+V+Y+Z" in Chinese and the dative construction "X(?)[ga]+Y(?)[ege]+Z(?)[eul]+V"in Korean to the abstract transfer categories, and conducts contrastive studies on the related metaphorical extension categories in both Chinese and Korean languages. The last chapter is the major conclusion of this thesis.Besides the deficiency researches have been discussed.
