Sh?saku End?,"the pioneer of Japanese Christian literature",is also the representative writer of “the Third Generation of Postwar Writers”.Sh?saku End? made his debut in the literary world in Japan in the 1950 s,and created a large number of popular works during the 40-odd years.He is a literary master who is deeply loved by the Japanese people and enjoys worldwide fame.His first novel,"White Man," won the 33 rd Akutagawa Prize for literature.Many of the works,such as "Silence" have been translated into many languages.He has been nominated for the Nobel prize in literature.In 1995,he was awarded the Order of Culture by the Japanese emperor for his outstanding contribution to the development of Japanese Culture.Sh?saku End? was baptized when he was a child and is a devout Christian.As a young student,he studied in France and majored in French Catholic literature.His literary creation always focused on the conflict between his own religious beliefs and Japanese social environment.Therefore,when it comes to Sh?saku End?,people always associate him with Christianity.At present,the domestic and foreign studies on Sh?saku End? and his literature mainly focus on the relationship between his literary works and religious beliefs,and most of the research objects are belles-lettres.But in fact,he has written not only serious literary works,but also witty and humorous popular literature.Besides,compared with his belles-lettres,his popular novels are more popular and favored by Japanese readers.Among them,The Girl I Left Behind,Siren and The Call of The Dark have been adapted into TV shows and movies,which have been highly praised in Japan.But at present there is very few systematic research on his popular literature.Therefore,this dissertation analyzes and studies Sh?saku End?'s popular literature from the perspective of ethics,which opens a new perspective for the study of his popular literature.This dissertation consists of six chapters,including the introduction,the body part and the conclusion.The introduction mainly introduces the research significance,literature review and the research methodology of the dissertation.The first chapter introduces the development of Japanese popular literature after the World War II and Sh?saku End?'s literary works.Then it gives the definition of Light Novel and the criteria of the study materials.The second chapter introduces the eternal pursuit of "good" in the "light novels" by Sh?saku End?from the natural and social attributes of "good" in ethics.The third chapter points out the different demonstrations of "evil" in the Sh?saku End?'s literature in different periods.This chapter explains Sh?saku End?'s profound understanding of “evil” by analyzing the dishonest,ugly and evil phenomena in his literature.The fourth chapter discusses the dialectical ethics of the transformation of good and evil in Sh?saku End?'s literature by analyzing Song of Sadness and the Demon of the DayThe final chapter analyzes the essence of "good" and "evil" in Sh?saku End?'s literature from three aspects: his Christian faith,his reflection on the war and Francois Mauriac's influence on Sh?saku End?'s works.Belonging to the generation who experienced World War II,he suffered greatly from the war.His attitude towards the war reflects his desire to pursue the good and avoid the evil.In addition,as a result of the study of Mauriac's literature,as well as the exposure to the psychology of Carl Gustav Jung,Sh?saku End? began to study the deep consciousness of the human being in the later period of his writing.
