Research On Alain Badiou's Theory Of The Subject

As one of the most famous modern philosophers in France,Alain Badiou's thoughts is receiving more and more attention among people and even the whole world.Of all his thoughts,the theory of the subject really has an important influence.For example,in his Theory of the Subject,Being and Event and Logic of the World,the discussion of the subject was always Badiou's central topic.Different from the idealistic interpretation of subject in the history of western philosophy,Badiou's subject was based on marxist historical materialism.In those discussions,Badiou used the logic of rupture to redefine Hegel's dialectics,applied the mathematical set theory to reinterpret Mallarme's Poetry and Lacan's psychoanalysis,and also probed into the relationship among the subject,event and the truth,building up what he called the topology network of the subject,that is to say,in Badiou's view,the subject,event and the truth was a closely linked trinity,in which a truth existed by declaring its subject and these subjects became subjects in the process of truth declaration with their loyalty to the event.It was Badiou's special theory of the subject's topos,which opens a window for us to understand his subject and French militant philosophy,from which we can detect the new development of the theory of the subject in our modern world,that is to say,to be a kind of active subject who puts himself into whatever circumtances,a subject who changes the world in the sense of marxism.This paper concentrates on the exploration and analysis of the theory of the subject in Badiou's Theory of the Subject,Being and Event and Logic of the World,which offers a picture of Badiou's theory development of the subject.There are five chapters in all.The first chapter reviews the origin of Badiou's theory dcvelopmet of the subject,taking Althusser as the turning point,combing the Marxist concept of the the class subject before Althusser,that is to say,the working-class and the proletarian's subject as well as the Sartre's alienated subject,through the developmet of Althusser's history without subject,overdetermination and ideological inquiry,and then comes Lacan's tridomain(the imaginary,the symbolic and the true)theory and the divided subject under the discourse theory,which all offers the background and methodological sources for Badiou's theory of subject.From Chapter 2 and Chapter 4,it analyzes and discusses the subject in Theory of the Subject,Being and Event and Logic of the World.With the outbreak of the storm in May,Badiou gradually realized that only staying in the study could not solve a series of real problems.Only by stepping out of the study and jumpping into the craze of the reality could he face and solve the problems and dilemmas in real life.In Chapter 2's discussion of the subject,it focus on horlieu and esplace such a pair of key concepts,thus explores the place of the subject,Badiou's theory of the contradiction,the subjective and the objective and the subject under the exception,and also analyzes the subjective and the process of the subject and the six relative concepts of the subject,drawing the outline of the subject ? and subject ?,through these discussions,the athuor finds that,in Theory of the Subject,Badiou constructed a positive and active subject who was still engaged in practice even though the revolution and reality were in crisis,and thus finds that the subject in Theory of the Subject is a subject which was too political.After Theory of the Subject,through the two seminar's learning created by Jean-Luc Nancy and Philip Laku Rabat,Badiou found that only from the political perspective analysis of subject can not fully solve the problems in the reality,thus he began to think in a mathematical form to express his narration of the subject,thus he wrote Being and Event.In chapter 3's analysis of the subject,one of Badiou's core idea "mathematics is ontology",is analyzed first,and it is also compared with Plato and Heidegger's thoughts,and then,several foundations of the subject in Being and Event are analyzed,they are the set theory,the infinite set and the axiom of choice,which derives the truth of the subject:forcing and the unnameble,causing a series of deploration and interpretation of subject's work,which constructs a mathematical subject image in Being and Event and finds that the subject in it was a kind of abstract and mathematical subject.If Being and Event whas only a formal framework in Badiou's philosophy,it was too and seriously derivated from the reality.Therefore,Badiou realized that he needed to reconsider the subject in a real world of phenomena,which was the reason why Logic of the World came into being.On the whole,Logic of the World was the follow-up and supplement of Being and Event,but it also had its own unique structure and significance.Chapter 4 analyzes the subject in one of Badiou,s early 20th's century book,Logic of the World,through the analysis of the connection and distinction of Logic of the World and Being and Event,it discusses the background and its significance of sequel of Being and Event,through the subject's new development,that is to say,the logic and the world,appearance and the object,conditions and the transcendence,thinking that the subject theory at this moment is an overly physical subject with the shell of Hegel's theory and the core of Kant's theory.Thus,from chapter 2 to chapter 4,we can find that Badiou's subject theory has gone through a development from political to mathematical and to physical,in which the core theme is Badiou's endless thinking and deploring of the theory of subject,just like what chapter 5 interprets,Badiou's theory of the subject has great effect on the polictics,science,art and love domains,which all shows that the attitude of Badiou to the development of the subject is reform and innovation.
