A Study Of The Sunite Case System Of Modern Mongolian

The case is a grammatical category which integrates form,meaning and function in Mongolian language.There are 9 cases,such as nominative?adnominal?possessive?obj ective?dative?instrumental?elative?comitative and allative in Sunid dialect.Based on the self-built corpus of The Corpus of Sunid Dialect of Modern Mongolian Language,this dissertation follows the viewpoint of "System is prior to its components" by Ferdinand de Saussure,adopts the approaches of describing linguistic feature,applying corpus,analyzing multi-factors,concludes the typical forms of the case morphemes,summarizes the typical semantic roles and typical syntactic functions of case elements.On this basis,the dissertation constructs the case system of Sunid dialect by organizing the corresponding relations among form,meaning and function.At the same time,the dissertation describes the antithesis between marker-free cases and marker cases,specifies the differences between omitting case markers and implying case markers,and analyzes the usage of the case morphemes that deviate from case category.This dissertation consists of three parts,such as main body,references and appendix.The main body includes six chapters.Chapter one is "Introduction",which presents Sunid dialect,describes the cases of Mongolian language,accounts for research situation,research significance,research contents,research methods,the innovation of the thesis,the source of the corpus,the structure of the corpus and transferring of original materials.Chapter two is "The form of the cases of Sunid dialect",which researches the forms of cases,chooses the typical morphemes of the cases except from nominative and adnominal,summarizes allomorphs and their changing conditions.Nominative is marker-free,adnominal is constructed by stem,the marker of possessive is morpheme/-i:n/,the marker of objective is morpheme/-i:/,the marker of dative is morpheme/-t/,the marker of instrumental is morpheme/-(?):r/,the marker of elative is morpheme/-(?):s/,the marker of comitative is morpheme/-the:/,the marker of allative is morpheme/-ro:/.Chapter three is "The meaning of the cases of Sunid dialect",which researches the semantic roles of case elements.The semantic role of nominative is agent or patient,the semantic role of adnominal is attribute,the semantic role of possessive is genitive and attribute,the semantic role of objective is patient,the semantic role of dative is giving,time and place,the semantic role of instrumental is tool or means,the semantic role of elative is origin,root and source,the semantic role of comitative is partner or object,the semantic role of allative is direction.Chapter four is "The function of the cases of Sunid dialect",which researches the syntactic functions of case elements and analyzes the usage of the case morphemes that deviate from case category.Syntactically,nominative plays the role of subject,adnominal plays the role of attributive,possessive plays the role of attributive,objective plays the role of object,dative plays the role of indirect object and adverbial,instrumental plays the role of adverbial and indirect object,elative plays the role of adverbial,object and subject,comitative plays the role of adverbial and object,allative plays the role of adverbial.On the study of the usage of the case morphemes that deviate from case category,the dissertation mainly distinguishes the case suffixes and their homonymy word-formation suffixes,analyzes the shift of the function of case suffixes in pragmatic process,and researches the structural solidification and categorical dissimilation of case suffixes.Chapter five is "The marker-free cases of Sunid dialect".Based on the analyzing on the characteristics of the structures of nominative that is marker-free and adnominal that is constructed by stem on the level of case category,the dissertation studies the antithesis between other marker-free cases and marker cases on the level of case subcategory.At the same time,the dissertation distinguishes the omitting case markers and implying case markers,tries to reveal the appearing and hiding rules of the case markers.Chapter six is "Conclusion and prospect",which summarizes the whole paper,generalizes the typical characteristics of the cases of Sunid dialect with tabular form,and displays the relative regular corresponding relation between the semantic roles of case elements and their syntactic roles.At the same time,the thesis considers about future research.
