The application of "Collage Techniques" in music composition has attracted worldwide attention since the music creation of American composer Charles Ives, and has gradually become a special musical style, which came to a summit in the 1970 s.German modern composer Bernd Alois Zimmermann is one of the representatives who pushed the "collage music" to its heyday.who contrasted sharply with his contemporaries of avant-garde composers Karlheinz Stockhausen,Pierre Boulez, and Luigi Nono.He did not make a fundamental breakthrough and departure from "traditional music",but gradually formed his own music style at the end of the 1950 s,with the utilization of "collage techniques" in a multi-creative thinking. This kind of music is characterized by using music from different periods and different sources(medieval music, baroque and classical music, jazz and pop music)as quoted materials and led by original music materials, the quoted materials being controlled and adjusted according to the original creative concept. As a result, the quoted materials appear in the music like various components and form an organic whole with the original music materials. This thesis consists of an introduction,a conclusion, and three chapters. The introduction introduces the meaning and basis of the topic selection, and briefly explains the social, philosophical and artistic background of the rise of the art of "Collage Techniques".The first chapter outlines Zimmermann's life, his journey of composing, the influence of his era on his creation and the formation of his concept of "Kugelgestalt der Zeit",or “Spherical Time”.The second chapter analyzes in detail the practical application of "collage technology" by composers from different nationalities and music genres, including George Crumb,Alban Berg,Arvo P?rt,and Luciano Berio. This chapter also summarizes the general characteristics of "collage" style music creation and the three main collage techniques: "Apposition","Fusion" and " Counterpoint ".Based on this, the third chapter focuses on sorting out and analyzing the relationship between "quoted materials" and "original materials" in Zimmermann's late music works, deconstructs his "collage music",revealing the similarities and differences between his and other composers' practical use of this unique artistic thinking in their music works. In this chapter, the author also explains, from the technical point of view, the process of constructing the structure and forming the melody in the changes and development of the materials in Zimmermann's music, and explores the logic of structure construction from the definition of structure,so as to understand the unique creative thinking of the composer. The conclusion part expounds on the relationship between Zimmerman's post-modernist collage art and the “multiculturalism” of post-war European society, pointing out that his music was determined and restricted by the social being of Western European capitalist society after the Second World War.In order to understand Zimmermann's music and his works in depth,it is necessary to understand his musical thoughts and the philosophical concepts behind them. Finally, this thesis analyzes the significance of Zimmerman's "collage techniques" to the development of theories of composition technology in the new century.
