Ideological And Political Education And The Shaping Of Modern Gentleman Personality

"Gentleman" was the personality model for the moral cultivation of scholars in ancient China,shouldering the mission of the cultural construction and political construction.The traditional China society not only through systems in the national level to select the talented and guide them to shape the gentleman personality consciously,but also through the clan discipline,etiquette norms(such as"ritual")and the old-style private school to construct the cultural society which aimed at building the"gentleman" personality.Since the reform and opening up in China,the market economy has also brought,besides the advanced experience of the west,something negative,such as forgetting all moral principles at the sight of profits and the expansion of the desires,leading to the alienation of people,and eroding the moral bottom line.At present,the ideological and political education tend to focus only on the content of education,leading to the virtuality,generalization,cavitation of the ideal and belief education,not achieving the seamless connection between the ideological and political education and the shaping of the modern personality.Therefore,in the ideological and political path of education,drawing on the reasonable connotation of the traditional gentleman personality,so as to shape the gentleman personality with modern characteristic has become the priority.This paper takes the ideological and political education as the perspective,with the historical literature clarification and comparative research,to analyze the connotations of traditional Chinese gentleman personality and the intrinsic relationship among the connotations;then discusses the rational content which can be set an example to the modern society,meanwhile analyzes the modern gentleman personality and its cultivation and shaping during the ideological and political education.First of all,this paper examines the economic,political and cultural background of the traditional gentleman personality theory,and clarifies the three development stages of gentleman personality theory.The first is the period of Pre-qin Dynasty,during which the original Confucian such as Confucius,Mencius gave the exposition of gentleman personality and shaped the "gentleman" as a model of the cultivation.Then the second stage is the Han Dynasty to the Ming and Qing Dynasty,during which the connotation of the "gentleman" had been extended and enriched which contained all the elements of times.And the last stage is the period of modern times,during which the connotation of traditional gentleman personality has been transformed.The transformation not only contained the pain of separation between the traditional and modern,but also breeds new modern connotation of gentleman personality.The connotation of traditional personality is rich.The benevolent love is the emotional demands of gentleman personality.Conducting with etiquette is the code of conduction.Knowledge and understanding is the principle.And the courage without fear is the quality.Righteousness is the standard of values.Honesty and trustworthy are the criterion of conduction.These six elements constitute the traits of traditional Chinese gentleman personality.Secondly,on the basis of the analysis of the connotation of the traditional gentleman personality,we further study the relationship between the ideological and political education and the modern personality.The significance of the traditional personality theory on modern gentleman personality is mainly in three aspects:one is the whole idea of the traditional personality theory;the second is the character of the traditional personality;the third is the specific elements of the traditional personality.Based on the analysis from the three dimensions:the tasks and goals of ideological and political education,"triangle" structure of the personality and the social relations,we will go on to analyze the comprehensive and scientific characteristics of the structure of modern gentleman personality comparing with the traditional personality of gentleman personality structure.We also combine the content,objectives and tasks of the ideological and political education,and the development background and realistic needs with elements of traditional personality and characteristics.At last we will analyze the characteristics of the modern personality such as:independence,wisdom,enterprising,civilization and creativity after the comprehensive study of the definition and the connotation of personality with the help of psychology,philosophy,sociology,ethics.On the basis of the above analysis,the paper discusses the relationship between the ideological and political education and modern gentleman personality,and it makes clear that shaping the modern gentleman personality is not only the goal and task of ideological and political education,but also an inherent requirement of the ideological and political education.The ideological and political education is the important way to shape the modern gentleman personality.Specifically,the impact of ideological and political education on the modern gentleman personality is mainly manifested in the following three aspects,one is to provide ideological guidance,spiritual motivation and the effective methods;the second is to provide guidance and methods for ideological value;the third is to construct the political characters of the modern gentleman personality.The ideological and political education is helpful to cultivate the modern gentleman personality with the Marx's theory,improve the core values of socialism ideological identity,and strengthen the mission and responsibility of realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.Thirdly,from the perspective of ideological and political education,we analyze and discuss the reasons and influence of the absence of modern gentleman personality.Why modern gentleman personality flaw mainly has the following four aspects:the negative influence of market economy,the negative incentive caused by power corruption,materialistic culture and the negative individual pursuit,the main performance of which are the moral disruption and the indifference of the society.What's more the negative influence will affect the construction of the harmonious society,the national soft power,and weaken the influence of Chinese culture and its cohesion.Finally,this paper discusses how to shape the modern gentleman personality with the characteristic of the times from three aspects.On the macro level,the country should adhere to the strategy of ruling the country by virtue and the rule,push forward the construction of democratic politics,perfect the socialist advanced culture,in order to set up the value guidance for the construction of the modern gentleman personality for every citizen.On the intermediate perspective level,we should actively cultivate and practice the socialist core values,strengthen ideological and political education,enhance moral binding,in order to create the social environment for the public to create a modern gentleman personality.On the micro level,we should build the ideal of the modern gentleman personality,strengthen the modern gentleman personality cultivation,pay attention to the practice of modern gentleman personality.General secretary Xi Jinping's speech "to celebrate the 95 anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China" said:"the civilization of China nurtures the excellent Chinese traditional culture in the 5000 years,conceives the revolution culture and socialist advanced culture in the great struggle of the party and the people for their needs,and reflects the Chinese nation's most profound spiritual pursuit,representing the unique spirit of the Chinese nation".In the new historical period,with the help of the gentleman personality theory in the traditional culture,on the base of advanced culture of revolution and socialism,to construct the gentleman personality with modern characteristics and realize the cultural confidence is worthy of study.This research has a long way to go.
