In recent years,China's economy has maintained a rapid growth, contributing to the world economic growth. However,in the process of rapid economic development,it also appeared many problems, such as the polarization between the rich and the poor, inequality problems still outstanding.Further speaking, two levels of differentiation and inequality are bound to cause social middle class's weakened or even disappeared, and produce social unrest and instability. In order to develop a sustainable and stable "olive type" modern society, the key is to foster the big social power. The big power is the middle class,it is in the position of more like a buffer of social contradictions between the top and bottom level, and it is the foundation of the modern society to stability. It plays an important role in maintaining the rationalization of social structure and the development of social equity. However, what kind of group is the middle class in China? How big is it?What is the status of development in the end? What is the law of change?A series of questions are worth studying.Previous scholars at home and abroad have studied the middle class from the perspective of their own considerations. The economists often start from the single income or other index to study the middle class, and the sociologists often supplement the questionnaire survey data from multiple indicators to research the middle class. This paper will use the macro and micro level data to analyze the status quo of the middle class in China from multiple indicators oning the basis of the research of previous scholars.Meanwile, this article will use the method of modern non-parametric kernel density to estimate the proportion of the middle class dertermined by multiple dimensions. Finally, introducting functional data analysis methods into the transition trend of the middle class, and then finding out the rules of the development of the middle class, are of great significance for improving the research of the middle class, stabilizing society, achieving common prosperity, and building a well-off society in an all-round way.The structure and main contents of this paper are composed of the following parts:The first part is the introduction of Chapter 1,which mainly proposes the background and significance of the topic, and traces and reviews of the literature of research at home and abroad, and explains the purpose and method, the thought and framework,as well as innovation and inadequate. The second part is the chapter 2 of the related theory and the concept of the middle class. This part is to research the theoretical basis of the middle class, the concept of middle class, the construction and identification criteria of the indicators and the data description.Which makes every effort to lay a solid foundation for the back of the chapter. The third part is the data research section of chapters 3 through 6.This part are mainly from the macro data and the micro data level to study the middle class, including the current situation, the proportion measure and the evolution trend and so on.Chapter 3 describes the status quo of the marginal middle class and the core middle class by means of descriptive statistics.Chapter 4 proposes a new method for measuring the proportion of the middle class constructed by multiple dimensional indicators using the multi-dimensional joint kernel density function in modern nonparametric statistical methods. However, because of the availability of data, the relevance of indicators, and the time of inconsistency in dimensions, etc.,the proportion of the middle class is measured in the empirical part by taking only one dimension and two dimensions as an example. The fifth chapter analyzes the changes of the marginal middle class formed by the main indicators based on macro data, especially the method of introducing functional data.First of all,the income marginal middle class and the consumer marginal middle class are carried out to study the basic characteristics of the function.Secondly, the main component of the function is introduced to study the change law of the marginal middle class formed by income and consumption. The sixth chapter analyzes the trend of the middle class formed on the main indicators by using the micro-CGSS data, and studies the changes of the core middle class formed by all indicators. The fourth part is the summary and prospect of chapter 7.According to the previous research, the author puts forward the method and empirical conclusions, gives the corresponding suggestion, and predicts the next research.
