College student association,resulted from the "independence,open-minded,and liberty" academic spirit,is a kind of indispensable cultivation out of class in higher education.It plays a significant role in ethic promotion,knowledge and skills development of students,and in training them to be resilient and successful in their future social life and career.At the same time,it has made a constantly important attribution to the higher school education.With divergent types and colorful association activities,the student association representing the campus culture has enriched students' after-class life.Furthermore,practically by its nature,the college student association actually offers rich opportunities,aiming at self-promotion and character-completion,for students to contact with the society.On the student side,it is a wonderful study place especially for overall quality development,say,team-work spirit,cooperation,innovation,competition,and psychology compression.While in the eye of our college administrators,it is another required breeding ground assisting students to form a right and optimistic view on life,value,and the whole world,and a good civilian mind.To put it simply,the core value of the student organization rests with its unnoticeable education function out of class.However,things have changed.During the reform and advance of higher education in China,college student organizations kept soaring and enlarging after a quantitative leap of colleges,which brought themselves unexpected troubles and challenges in later construction and development process.The blind increase of student groups in many China universities has contributed many quality problems neglected before,severely restraining their cultivation function from developing sustainably.What's more,as the knowledgeable economy coming in the 21st century,especially under the globalization setting,there are constantly diversified students activities within renewed student organizations.And the priority at this moment for all colleges in China is to actively think about how to make those student associations adapt well to new conditions and effectively make a difference on student cultivation as a real breeding ground to help them success.Benefited from the contemporary worldwide first-rate high school in education,college student associations in the U.S.A are also top-notched in the world,being studied and adored by those in the rest of the world.In America,a large number of elites,such as political leaders,social hotshots,all come from college student organizations,who have had took part in many activities and gained promotion when in college.So,we can say that college student associations are experienced in the excellent cultivation with a completed set of advanced and scientific theories worth our efforts to pay attention,study,and innovate.Supported by the view of self-organazation theories,the thesis is mainly talking about the operating mechanism of university student associations.After comparatively studying between Chinese and American university student associations in different historical stages,it gains several clarifications on the operating mechanism research as follows:a macroscopic perspective focusing on management strategies,the system operation from a intermediate perspective and cultivation on a microscopic view centering on activity implementation.All these three study dimensions covering"management,organization and activity" on the basis of a great deal documentation,data,and empirical researches are applied to the further systematic comparison of the operation mechanism of student association in the two countries,which give a look at peculiarities and extant shortages of each dimension and a chance to study causes of them.Thanks to all the work just been done before,it is able to discover existing problems and to put forward optimized plan of operating mechanism in student
