Driven by the rapid development of information technology, the business models and statuses of enterprises have undergone disruptive changes.Enterprises are always in an uncertain and increasingly complex market environment, and many companies rise and fall in shorter and shorter intervals.Besides, environmental turbulence and speed competition have formed a "winner takes all" phenomenon. In order to obtain a sustained competitive advantage, companies must judge the market conditions quickly and accurately, locate environmental features, excavate potential opportunities and prospective paftners, establish more effective value-linked networks, and connect organizations to pursue infonmation interests and control interests through networks.Accumulations of node capabilities, differences in strength of network relationships, and diversity links of the network structure determine the logic of organizational value creation, promote the growth and evolution of this network organization as well. However,in the process of evolution, why some network organizations can achieve"winner-take-all"?Why do some network organizations decline in a short period of time? How does a network organization maintain a sustained competitive advantage in a hypercompetitive market environment?Faced with these problems, the management concepts and cognition of senior managers need to make corresponding responses. At the same time, these issues have increasingly attracted the attention of the theoretical community. Therefore, analyzing the role of managerial cognition in the evolution of network organization has important theoretical and practical significance.Based on the consideration of theoretical and practical backgrounds, this paper takes the evolution of network organization from the perspective of manager cognition as the research object.Meanwhile,it comprehensively uses the basic theories of embeddedness, transaction cost theory, the managerial cognitive theory, the resource-based theory, organizational ability theory and other theories based on the previous research results.Using literature analysis, game analysis, questionnaire survey and empirical analysis research methods to analyze the driving elements, evolution elements, and evolution stages of network organization growth and evolution, and then analyze the main cognition model of the evolution of network organization.First, this paper explores the cognitive driving factors of the basic evolution of network organizations, and finds that the organization's competitive paradigm, personalized and customized customer needs, rapid technological change, and other external contexts contribute to the objective dynamics of network organization evolution. It also discovers the update of managers' knowledge system, the formation of sharing cognition, and the network location and embedded network resources form different subjective situations such as different interest requirements can contribute to the subjective power source of network organization evolution That is,the evolution of network organization is the result of the combined effect of external organizational context and internal managerial cognitionSecond, this paper explores the basic elements of the evolution of the network organization, including the node's organizational capabilities, network relationships between organizations, the network structure of the reaction between organizational forms and behavior patterns.Third, the paper analyzes the evolutionary phase of network organization. It is considered that a stable network structure and the balance of benefits are "momentum" that helps network organizations achieve stability at different stages.Based on two dimensions of evolutionary factors and "momentum",the evolution of the network organization is divided into three stages the self-stabilization stage, the self-adaptation stage, and the self-integration stage. The self-stabilization stage uses zero-order capacity(rigidity capability)to form a resource-based development, and occasional organizational links between organizations. The adaptation phase achieves the phase balance between organizations through the mutual adaptation of capabilities and forms a gradually stable social relationship and economic relationship domain between organizations. This relationship domain is fragmentary, and it has mitigated since the integration and reconstruction of the integration phase, resolved inter-organizational conflicts as well.Inter-organizational relationships form vertical integration, horizontal integration, and mixed integration.Fourth, this paper explores the internal logic of network organization evolution. The study believes that there are two main lines in the evolution of network organizations:one is the evo lution of node organizational capabilities, manifested by the ability to rely on the zero-order capabilities of organizational practices to the first-order ability of organizations to adapt to each other, and then to develop and create new organizational practices. The second is the choice of value creation logic based on the relationship between organizations, manifested as the convergence of unilateral value extraction, the unilateral value extraction of relational domains and the creation of reciprocal value creation, and the establishment of reciprocal value creation of relationship integration. The evolution of network organization is the result of the combined effect of node organizational capabilities and the creation of relationship values.Fifth, based on the node ability's traditional and prospective views constrained by managerial cognitive characteristics, the adaptability and re-plasticity of inter-organizational relationships divide the network organization into four basic cognitive patterns.Pattern I:Adaptation—a cognition pattern from traditional views.Pattern II:adaptive-a cognitive mode from prospective views.Pattern III:formative-a cognition pattern from traditional views.Pattern IV:shape ability-a prospective cognition mode.Pattern I emphasize that relying on the existing knowledge structure, the organization can realize the process of value creation through mutual adaptation in the organizational relationship.Pattern II emphasizes the continuous exploration of new knowledge systems can achieve mutual adaptation in the organizational relationship.Pattern III emphasizes that the structure continues to explore the process of new connections relying on existing knowledge in the organizational relationship.Pattern IV emphasizes reconstructing network relationships in the process of constantly exploring new knowledge systems. Finally, this paper uses game analysis and empirical analysis methods to verify the inter-organizational network embedding and managers' cognition.Through the analysis,it is found that the mutual benefit of the reciprocal value orientation between organizations is the largest, and managerial cognition has an incomplete mediating role between network embedding and innovation performance. At the same time, this paper demonstrates the control of the statistical characteristics and empirical characteristics of managers on the model, including managers' age, education structure, job changes, working years, openness, and closure. From the analysis above, there are four innovations in this paper.Firstly, from the perspective of knowledge structure and information architecture of managers' cognition,we analyze the driving factors of network organization evolution;Secondly, based on the perspective of high-order theory and contextual duality theory, the evolution of network organization is divided into three stages:the self-stabilization stage,self-adaptive stage and self-integration stage, thus highlighting the important role of managers' knowledge structure and information AESI capabilities, and enriching the research boundaries of organizational evolution theory;Third, from the node ability of traditional and prospective views, and the two dimensions of the adaptability and re-plasticity in organizational relationship,we explore the four basic patterns of network organization evolution;Fourth, this paper develops and verifies the measurement scale of information AESI capability.
