An Analysis On The Influence Of Contract Farming On Farmers' Technology Adoption Behavior

New technologies play an important role in increasing agricultural production and farmers' incomes as well as promoting development of modern agriculture.During the year 1982-1986 and 2003-2017,China's "No.1 Central Document" has focused on the topic of agriculture,rural community and farmer consecutively.In the Twelfth Five-Year Plan,China has made specific strategic plans to accelerate the development of modern agriculture,laid policy foundations for the development of agriculture and the popularization of agricultural technology.Nevertheless,the diffusion of new agricultural technologies is slow in developing countries,and the diffusion of agricultural technology is the key to agricultural development,and the farmers' technology adoption behavior has an important affect of agricultural development.The family-based agricultural production and management mode exposes the problems of small scale and low degree of organization,which leads to the blindness and convergence of agricultural production,and restrains the popularization of agricultural technology.The small-scale and decentralized way of agricultural production and operation limits the needs of farmers for science and technology.It is far from enough to solve the problem of technology popularization by government,so we should urge farmers to participate in contract farming,and then improve their technical level by developing new agricultural management organizations such as cooperatives and enterprises.In recent decades,contract farming has great influence on farmers' production especially in developing countries.Contract Farming is an important aspect of agricultural institutions that may aid in the transition to modern agricultural.For instance,contract farming may lead to reduced risk and increased productivity.Therefore,this research takes the broiler industry as an example,firstly discusses the reasons and mechanism of broiler farmers participate in contract farming,secondly analyzes the impact of contract farming on the farmers' technology adoption from the perspective of farmers heterogeneity,technical heterogeneity and contractual heterogeneity to summarize the rules and reasons why farmers participate in contract farming and the characteristics of farmers' technology adoption with the development of agricultural industrialization.This provides related policy advice for promoting contract farming development,guaranteeing income stability of broiler farmers,and relevant theoretical and empirical reference for government to implement agricultural management system innovation.In the text arrangement,this paper firstly discusses the motivation and mechanism of contract farming participation of broiler farmers,and then analyzes the impact of farmers'contract participation on factor input behavior.The results show that:on the one hand,with the development of agricultural industrialization,farmers generally participate in contract farming,and the farmers' risk preference,technology communication and distance from the nearest broiler enterprise have significant impact on farmers' contract farming participation behavior.On the other hand,farmers' participation in contract farming has significant effect on farmers' technology input,veterinary drug use and breeding scale,and their participation in contract farming has the greatest effect on farmers' technology input behavior.Secondly,we focus on the research of technology adoption behavior,which is the most affected by contract farming.In other words,we closely study on the impact of contract farming on farmers' technology adoption behavior in this part.This part is the core chapter of this paper as well.The step-by-step method is used to analyze the mechanism of contract farming influence farmers' technology adoption behavior,which considers risk preference heterogeneity,technical attribute heterogeneity and contractual heterogeneity.More specifically:Firstly,the paper analyzes the impact of contract farming on farmers' technology adoption behavior across different risk preferences.The results show that contract farming have significantly impact on farmers'technology adoption behavior,mitigating the effect of risk aversion degree on farmers' technology adoption behavior,and participate in contract farming has greater effect on risk-averse farmers' technology adoption behavior.Further,we explore the impact of contract farming on farmers' technology adoption behavior across different technology attributes.The results show that:participating in contract farming has significant effect on farmers' technology adoption behavior across different attributes,but the degree of influence is different.Secondly,the paper analyzes the influence of contract farming under different incentive mechanism and restriction condition on farmers' technical input degree.The results are as follows:(1)Incentive mechanism and constraint condition of contract farming have significant effect on farmers' technology input behavior.Different contractual arrangements have different results.Incentive subsidy mechanism and non-margin restriction condition have significantly positive effects on the technology adoption degree,technology investment and technology adoption time.The margin restriction condition has significantly negative effect on the technology adoption degree,technology investment and technology adoption time.(2)Contractual arrangements have different effects on farmers'technologies adoption across different technology attributes.First of all,the non-margin restrictions have significantly positive effects on capital-intensive technology and safe production technology.Secondly,the incentive subsidy mechanism has significantly positive impact on capital-intensive technology and safe production technology,but has negative impact on environment-friendly technology.Thirdly,the margin restriction has negative impact on capital-intensive technology and environment-friendly technology,but has positive impact on safe production technology.Thirdly,the research focuses on the impact of farmers' technology adoption behavior on farmers' farming income.The results are as follows:(1)Farmers' technology adoption behavior has significantly positive effect on farmers' farming income.(2)The participation in contract farming has a significantly positive effect on the farmers'technological benefits.On the one hand,the interaction between contract participation and technology adoption has significantly positive impact on farmers' income.It shows that contract farmers have more income-increasing effect than non-contract farmers when they adopt technology.On the other hand,in the subsample regression,,the technology adoption has significantly positive impact on farmers' income in the contract households,but the technology adoption has no significant effect on farmers' income in the non-contract households.(3)Participating in contract farming has significantly positive effect on stability of farmers' income.According to the above conclusions,this paper finally puts forward some policy suggestions from the aspects of guiding farmers to participate in contract farming,perfecting the benefit connection mechanism between farmers and contract organizations,enhancing the function of government service,strengthening farmers' ability to resist risks,and optimizing the policies of agricultural technology extension,etc.
