Abstract/Summary:
Although clergy spouses experience various stressors, many use positive coping to function effectively. This work expands on Positive Coping among Wives of Male Christian Clergy (M. McMinn, S. Kerrick, S. Duma, E. Campbell, J. Jung, 2008) and articulates themes of positive clergy spouse coping to a non-psychology audience. In McMinn et al. (2008), mental health professionals nominated wives of male clergy who exemplify emotional and spiritual health. Researchers interviewed 25 nominees about coping with normal life stressors, stressors associated with being married to a minister, and catastrophic life events. Interviews were transcribed and coded using grounded theory. Chapters are based on major interview themes including the importance of social support, spousal support, spirituality, emotional regulation, and preventive and proactive coping.
