Research On The Relationship Between Male Prisoner's Mental Health,Their Personality And Coping Style

This study aimed to explore the male prisoner?s mental health,their personality and coping style,and study the relationship between them.through the study we can provide more scientific and effective theoretical basis for the transformation of prisoners.In this study,we use the SCL-90,EPQ and copying style questionnaires as measuring tools.Randomly selected 310 participants from Linfen,Shanxi Province Prison.The results were as follows:(1)By comparing with the normal,the SCL-90 scores of the male prisoner is higher than normal.The male prisoner?s mental health is not optimistic.(2)The male prisoner?s mental health were significant difference in age,education level,marital status,the occupation before arrested,the crime type and prison term.(3)The personality traits of male prisoner is high extraversion,high neuroticism and low concealing.(4)The male prisoner?s personality traits were significant difference in age,education level,marital status,the occupation before arrested,the crime type and prison term.(5)The score of coping from high to low is problem resolution,help seeking,escape,illusion,rationalization and selfabuse.The male prisoner?s coping is mature and positive.(6)The male prisoner?s coping were significant difference in age,marital status,the occupation before arrested and the crime type.(7)The mental health of prisoner were positively correlated with neuroticism and psychoticism.Extroversion were negatively correlated with the depression.Concealing were negatively correlated with the total scores of SCL-90 and the factor of relationships,anxiety,hostility,terror,paranoia,psychosis and other.The scores of total and the factors of SCL-90 were positively correlated with the Selfabuse,illusion,escape and rationalization,simultaneously,it was negatively correlated with help seeking.Hostility and terror were negatively correlated with the problem resolution.Extraversion were positively correlated with the problem resolution and help seeking.Neuroticism were positively correlated with escape,illusion,rationalization and selfabuse.Psychoticism were negatively correlated with the problem resolution,simultaneously,it was positively correlated with illusion.Concealing was positively correlated with problem resolution and negatively correlated with illusion.(8)The male prisoner?s personality of neuroticism and psychoticism can oredict their mental health,and the coping of selfabuse is the intermediary variable of neuroticism and mental health,illusion is the intermediary variable of psychoticism and mental health.
