Abstract/Summary:
Eco-Sophie is a particular ecosophy, that is, a project of generating wisdom that benefits the well-being of the whole Earth community in all its diversity (Drengson 1997). In particular, Eco-Sophie is my project of creating both the assumptive context and actual practices that allow our particular Western way of thinking/knowing to function as an integral and vitally contributing aspect of the self-organizing intelligence of the whole Earth community (e.g., Bateson 2000 Macy 1991b)---instead of interfering with it, as we have been doing in our eco-/suicidal ways (Roszak 1973).Based on the deconstructive insight that thinking/knowing is metaphor-based even in its more abstract method and logic (Johnson 1990 Daly 1992), I consider our Western logic a techno-logic. It is informed by metaphors and purposes of techne and fierce competition, which are both inherently antagonistic to Nature's organic, self-organizing ways and detrimental to complex, quality thinking/knowing---and which organize our discourse into war-games. This techno-logic, informed predominantly by alphabetic literacy, has severed mind from Nature (Abram 1997), and is a major (neglected) epistemic root of the mechanistic, objectifying paradigm (Morin 1992a). Thus, we need an inherently Nature-friendly eco-logic, a way of thinking/knowing that is informed by metaphors of Nature's ways and that facilitates the emergence of the self-organizing intelligence of the whole Earth system also in/as our Western, literate thinking/knowing. Creating an example, I develop, practice, and evaluate such an ecologic, and I compose an ecosystem or context of supportive assumptions and practices for it. This ecosystem includes a radically participatory epistemology/ontology, inspired by indigenous cultures nondual perspectives on "Nature-mind," as intelligently self-organizing and metaphor-informed diversity-friendly cooperation as vital both for Natural thriving and human thinking/knowing and pervasive co-creativity as the process of existence/experience. Eco-logical thinking/knowing is part of a practice of cooperative discoursing it is polylogical and works with diverse, changing, locally viable truths (cf. Morin 1992b). In an intentionally recursive, Nature-informed process, I practice the very approach I develop, thereby continuously evolving it, and evaluating its viability.Keywords. cooperation, (co-)creativity, eco-logic, ecosophy, epistemology, diversity, indigenous, knowing, logic, metaphor, mind, Nature, organic, participation, polylogue, techno-logic, thinking, self-organization, systemic, Western.
