Tan Dun,an avant-garde composer,exerts a significant influence around the world.He combines western music elements with national music,comebines motherland's culture with his own cultrual belief and steps an unusual creation of music,which embodies the combination of internationalization of music and national characters.Unconsciously influenced by Chinese traditional culture,especially Xiangchu culture,many of his works have the mark of national culture.The experience of studying abroad afterwards can be seen as the dividing line of his composing career,from then on,his musical works,not only in musical style,but also in music form,are increasingly extensive and multielemental,all of which obviously and vividly depict personality and characteristic of Tan Dun's musical works.Music aesthetic thoughts in every phase always have vivid characteristics of the times and original theoretical contribution.This thesis,through classifying the development and essential theories of Chinese traditional music aesthetic thoughts and western ones in different stages,clearly explains the characteristics of both Chinese and western major musical theories,extracts theories of music aesthetic thoughts which is related to Tan Dun's music works and then analyses the music aesthetic theory combing with musical works.There are five parts in this thesis.The first part is an intruduction of research purpose and significance,current research situation in both domestic and overseas,as well as scholastic conception and thought.The second part intruduces Tan Dun's experiences and cultural background of the music creation.The third part overviews music Chinese and western aesthetic thoughts respectively and does comparative study in musical nature,musical forms and content,musical aesthetic feeling,as well as music creation and artistic conception.The fourth part does research combining aesthetic thoughts of Chinese traditional music with “Symphony 1997: heaven,earth and person”.The fifth part expounds the reflect of western music aesthetic thought on “Symphony 1997: heaven,earth and person”.And the last part is a summary of the thesis.
