Abstract/Summary:
College students are faced with many demands and pressures that could affect and impact their ability to perform well academically. To further understand this, examining components of emotional intelligence with academic success might allow universities to explore programs to assist students at risk. Students on the Dean's List (n=61) and students on Academic Probation (n=39) from a Midwestern University were recruited to participate in a study examining emotional intelligence and academic success. A MANOVA was utilized to analyze the data with a statistical significance of .05. The study showed that students on the Dean's List produced higher scores of emotional intelligence than those on Academic Probation. The study also compared two groups of students on Academic Probation and found that no significant difference of emotional intelligence existed between them.
