Abstract/Summary:
In1984, Solomon&Rothblum published Academic Procrastination:Frequency and its Cognitive, Behavioral Factors at Counseling Psychology,it s the first time that the term Academic Procrastination appeared inthe psychology literature. It has drawn widespread concerns at foreignacademic circles, some related research has also made a series ofachievements, but there are few related studies of academicprocrastination in our country. In this study, we revised TuckmanProcrastination Scale and Procrastination Assessment Scale-Students.Then we discussed the relationship between academic procrastination,emotional intelligence and perfectionism.This study mainly revised Academic Procrastination Scale, discussedthe relationship between academic procrastination, emotionalintelligence and perfectionism. Participants were from four universitiesin Shanghai, Shandong, Anhui and Hubei, a total of581,266male,315female students. The survey data was used statistical software SPSS11.5and LISREL8.7software package to do the main analysis. This researchmainly involves four aspects:1, the revision of academic procrastinationscales;2, research on the differences of college students in academicprocrastination;3, research on the relationship between academicprocrastination, emotional intelligence and perfectionism;4, the effectof emotional intelligence and perfectionism on academic procrastination.Based on the data analysis, the results indicates that:1, according to TPS scale and PASS scale analysis, we found that the TPS itemdiscrimination result is good, but the structure validity is not fittingwell, on the PASS scale exploratory factor analysis and confirmatoryfactor analysis,13thitem reduce the construct validity of the scale, soit has been deleted. PASS revised(25items remains) has6factors:disgusted to task, rebellion, fear of failure, the evaluation of anxiety,dependence and other, the revised academic procrastination scale has agood reliability, validity, good structure, suitable for Chinese Collegestudents. For Chinese college students, there was no significantdifference in profession, but the result indicates that there aresignificant differences in gender, grade and region: the score of boysin the rebellion, fear of failure, other dimensions and total scores aresignificantly higher than those of girls. East students’ academicprocrastination subscales and total scores are higher than the inlandstudents scores, and in the rebellion, fear of failure, other dimensionand total scores, difference reached a significant level. Rebellion, fearof failure, other and total scores are significantly difference in grades.Post hoc test showed that sophomore academic procrastination issignificantly lower than the junior, senior students;2, emotionalintelligence and perfectionism were significantly correlation withacademic procrastination, academic procrastination and emotionalintelligence has negative correlation, except dependence dimension. Itmeans the higher emotional intelligence, the lower academicprocrastination. Total scores of academic procrastination hassignificant positive correlation with worried about making mistakes,parents’ expectation, individual standard, doubts about action and totalscores of perfectionism, and significant negative correlation withorganization;3, emotional intelligence and perfectionism have directlyeffect, which affect the academic procrastination.
