This study investigated the role of sense of coherence, acculturation and coping resources to manage stress of 55 self identified Hispanic/Latino caregivers of psychiatrically hospitalized children. A cross sectional design was used analyzing responses from participants using the SOC scale, SAFE scale, BSSS scale and DASS-21 scale. Correlational and multivariate regression analysis assisted in identifying factors predicting reported stress levels variance. Three Case Studies are presented illustrating stress levels and measured constructs. Results suggest that individuals reporting lower levels of SOC, older age and higher income reported higher levels of stress. Contradicting literature on the Hispanic/Latino stress management, acculturation stress and social support were not found to be significant predictors of stress for the individuals in this study. |
