Abstract/Summary:
The National Longitudinal Transition Study-2 (n.d) was funded by the National Center of Special Education Research (NCSER) to examine experiences and achievements of students with learning disabilities during high school through postsecondary schooling (National Longitudinal Transition Study [NLTS-2] (n.d.). Their study begun in December of 2000 and data collection ended in 2010. The study was an overview of students' educational, vocational, social, and personal experiences as they transition from adolescence to postsecondary schooling. The NLTS-2 provided an insight into students' high school perceptions and experiences. The NLTS-2 was used as a model for this research study. The purpose of this research study was to examine how successful college students with learning disabilities were in completing their studies at four-year colleges, and the role that high school transitional services played in their success. A mixed methods design was employed using the same surveys used in the NLTS-2. Academic adjustment correlated significantly with Students' perceptions of their high school experiences. From the interviews, participants identified three themes of importance to their success: mentorship, curriculum programs, and family support.
