| The researcher of this study attempted to evaluate the lack of alignment between business and information technology strategy and its effect on the increasing demand for technological services within higher education, with a focus on the roles and leadership of IT management. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between three CIO individual variables: roles (attributes that successful IS leaders should possess), education level, and self-perceived leadership styles (transactional and transformational), with the business and information system strategy planning alignment extent within higher education in Puerto Rico. The study obtained information from 93 CIOs, senior technology employees, and other employees with leadership positions at accredited institutions of higher education in Puerto Rico. The sampling frame was randomly selected from a closed and restricted population from the online Puerto Rico Council of Higher Education (PRCHE) Directory by choosing every second listing until the population sample was completed. The online directory of the PRCHE (http://www.estudiosenpr.net/html/instituciones.php) consists of more than 100 accredited institutions which includes institutions' names by alphabetical order and institutions' Web site links. |
