Abstract/Summary:
This study investigated instructors' background in sports and leisure. This study was to determine if non sports instructors were just as beneficial to athlete's development as instructors with a strong athlete sports background and training. The primary goal of this study was to confirm, based on a review of relevant literature and new survey research through adopting the Student Evaluation of Educational Quality (SEEQ) and the Lecturer Self-Rating form questionnaire for instructors. The study used a mixed methodology that involved both qualitative and quantitative approaches to gathering data from the study population.;The findings of the study indicated that there was a significant correlation between higher levels of skill, satisfaction with a specialized instructor and an instructor with general training not relevant to the sports and leisure field. It becomes the question if these educational programs are able to produce competent and compatible professionals to meet the challenge and competition from foreign professionals. The findings indicated that Taiwan athlete's were better trained and skilled receiving instruction from instructors who had special training in the sport field. These instructors who have experienced the demands, requirements in the sports field. Students were more competent and compatible professionals who could meet the challenge and competition from foreign professionals. Instructors who know and understand what is needed in the field. Athlete with an instructor with a specialty in their sports displayed more interest in the sports with more motivation to learn more.;The findings also acknowledge that a non-specialized instructor did not place the student athlete at a disadvantage. They did receive quality education but not strong influences in the sports or complete athletic administration coverage needed to establish the right type of skills needed for their professional interests. Basically, it came down to experience versus book sense. Established skills versus reading about the skills required.
