Abstract/Summary:
The increasing numbers of nontraditional undergraduate students in colleges and universities is quickly becoming the norm rather than the phenomenon it was once thought to be. The differences between traditional and nontraditional undergraduate student populations have historically been defined in terms of superficial demographic and statistical data. While there are obvious developmental differences between traditional-age and nontraditional-age student populations, there has been little research on the differences that may exist in the construct of need for cognition between the two student populations. This research compared levels of need for cognition in nontraditional-age and traditional-age undergraduate student populations.
