| The purpose of this study was to assess 285 urban elementary school counselors' self-reported perceptions of school bullying in the Dallas Independent School District (DISD) associated with their gender, ethnicity, and years of experience. Every day, elementary school-age children encounter bullying. School bullying is a serious and harmful problem in our elementary schools; it has psychological, social, and educational implications for everyone involved. Urban elementary school counselors need effective solutions to resolve this problem. Since schools are an ideal place for intervention, it appears that elementary school counselors may not effectively recognize bullying and intervene to prevent it, or they may simply not have the necessary training. No specific research has been done focusing on the role of the urban elementary school counselor with regard to bullying. The impact of urban elementary school counselors on bullying is largely unexplored. Therefore, the study of urban elementary school counselors' perceptions of bullying is necessary. |
