Intelligent routing protocol for mobile ad hoc wireless network

Abstract/Summary:
To find solutions to some of the challenging problems in that are suitable for future network architectures necessitates the creation of multi-communication environments for development. This dissertation develops a class of routing protocols, called Intelligent Routing Protocol (IRP), which includes three new routing protocols: DHMRP, ARIP and IDMA.;First, we developed the Dynamic Hybrid Multi Routing Protocol (DHMRP) that is able to establish multipath with hierarchical structure to obtain dynamic, hybrid and multi-routing protocol.;Second, we developed the Assignment Router Identifier Protocol (ARIP) based on previously designed DHMRP in order to defend against IP hacking.;Finally, we develop a security routing protocol, called Improving the Defense Against Malicious Attack for MANET based on the ARIP Protocol (IDMA) in order to solve some security problems that exist in the ARIP routing protocol.;Dynamic Hybrid Multi Routing Protocol (DHMRP) is developed based on the assumption that we organize the network into a hierarchal architecture, along with backbone nodes named cluster heads (CHs) to establish multi routing paths and parallel reply paths at the same time. This design will enable efficient and reliable data collection and evaluation. This protocol contributes the concept that the data packets are delivered by routers on the multi-routing paths and the "CHs" play an intelligent role to achieve of the goal of determining and monitoring cluster and routers without central service. This protocol will also operate without hardware device in each mobile as designed in many conventional routing protocols.;Among various possible attacks, attackers usually know the IP addresses of victims first. Since there is virtually no difference between a MAC address and a stationary IP address, the attacks work as well against stationary Internet nodes as against the mobile ones. It is believed that deployment of the protocol without secure IP addresses could result in the breakdown of the entire network.;The defense protocols to protect IP addresses in a wired or wireless network are not suitable for use in an Ad Hoc Wireless Network due to the fact that mobile nodes do not rely on a fixed infrastructure.;This dissertation develops flexible namespace domain in line with the current network architecture. This layer is embodied in an architectural model named Assignment Router Identifier Protocol (ARIP). The ARIP model defines a set of components and the modular relationships among them under the DHMRP framework. CHs on the reply path are in an application ARIP layer to determinate proxy identity, called Route Identity (RI), instead of an actual IP address. Therefore, the routes with RIs forward data packet to defend against possible hacking of the IP address attack in MANET. The benefit of this protocol is that it determinates Proxy IP address without a centralized scheme from central service. Therefore, this routing protocol is more flexible, inexpensive, and very easy to implement for civilian MANET applications.;This dissertation also proposes a design for a security protocol, called IDMA (Improving the Defense against Malicious Attack) protocol. This protocol is based on the ARIP routing protocol and is able to defend against several common attacks.;Many defense operations today need to have a high degree of shared situational awareness and must be able to accommodate distributed operations. We advocate IDMA protocol that utilizes characteristics of "CHs" intelligence in ARIP to improve the fast exchange of useful information via "CHs". The advantages of IDMA include rapid collection, processing, and dissemination of information on Target nodes. Another advantage of IDMA is that it can be put in place without a tremendous burden on energy consumption at each node.;These three protocols, namely DHMRP, ARIP and IDMA, constitute the overall contributions of this dissertation. Both analysis and experiments have been carried out to demonstrate that these protocols indeed achieve the desired goal for a more reliable and secure routing for MANET.
