Abstract/Summary:
The resources adolescents identified in their nested contexts, relying on R. M. Lerner's (2004a) proposal of the dynamic relationship between an individual and context were examined in a mixed method study. The first study was designed to compare self-reported resources for higher thriving and lower thriving adolescents from higher socioeconomic (SES) and lower SES neighborhoods. A follow-up photo interview with 3 higher thriving and 2 lower thriving adolescents from a lower SES community was conducted for study 2. Adolescents who were higher thriving reported more resources than adolescents who were in the lower thriving group regardless of their neighborhood location. Exploratory analyses of the photo study are also discussed, along with implications for clinicians and community-based programs.
