Abstract/Summary:
As the world witnessed in the last decade of the twentieth century, the Internet has changed the way people work. People can now search information instantly and have found innovative means to best leverage Internet technology in order to improve their lives both personally and professionally. One such means is the use of online project teams (OPTs) to support internal and external client engagements. As more corporations further embrace OPTs to support their businesses, the need to understand the elements that comprise successful OPTs becomes all the more essential. We identified the following elements for successful OPTs: presence, social capital, and servant-leadership. The purpose of this construct validation study was to develop a performance construct for practitioners working within OPTs at large, distributed organizations. This study seeks to determine whether there was a correlation between high performance, as defined by the Online Project Team Competency Model (OPTCOM) dimensions, and high performance, as defined by an existing measure utilized by the subject organization.
