Abstract/Summary:
The hybrid damper actuator bracing control (HDABC) system is studied with the intelligent strategy for earthquake resistance of building structures. This research includes finding the effects of soil structure interaction (SSI) on structural control, development of the strategy algorithm, probability analysis of control performance, and methods of estimating the control force magnitudes. This study uses not only existing earthquake records, but also future ground motions generated based on tectonic movements.; This dissertation contains four journal articles. (1) Introduction of HDABC system and development of an intelligent algorithm. The system adopts advantages of active and passive parts and prevents their shortcomings with the algorithm to maximally utilize the passive damper capacity and save the active energy consumption with the structural response reduction regulated by threshold values. (2) Analytical studies of hybrid controlled structures with SSI in frequency and time domains. Two kinds of seismic sources are used in time domain analysis of existing earthquake records and earthquakes generated with tectonic movements. (3) Study of methods for estimating the control force magnitude, in terms of building weight, for various controller types using earthquake response spectra or generated tectonic earthquakes. (4) Development of a control performance analysis method, based on the generated earthquakes with tectonic movements. As ground motions cannot be duplicated in future earthquakes, probability studies are proposed with the ground motions generated considering seismic hazards at the construction site. Mathematical formulations and numerical illustrations of the aforementioned concepts are provided in each paper. A section with the detailed derivations and more sample results is given for each paper in the dissertation.
