Abstract/Summary:
This dissertation analyzes the topic of nutrition and depression and its possible implications regarding depression. This information could potentially enhance the parameters for the treatment of depression utilized by the mental health professional. Numerous research studies are cited as evidence of the importance of nutrition and in regard to its impact on depressive symptoms, as well as prevention and treatment. Publications regarding vitamins, supplements, diets, cultures, and ages are available to mental health workers for consideration in clinical treatment. However, while there have been some nutritional research studies performed, results are not always homogeneous. With depression diagnoses on the rise, and nutrition emerging as an integral aspect of mental health, the mental health professional is provided with clear evidence that becoming familiar with the effects of nutrition on depression could lead to possible enhancement of treatment protocols for depressed populations.
