Abstract/Summary:
The problem. This research was designed to examine the relationship between religion, spirituality and global citizenship.;Method. A sample of 330 undergraduate volunteers from an urban university in Northern California were selected to participate in this study. The researcher used survey method to collect the necessary data from the participants. Specifically, the participants completed the modified College Students' Beliefs and Values --CSBV- (Astin, Astin, Lindholm, 2004) developed at UCLA for measuring spirituality, religiosity, and global citizenship. The responses to the questionnaire were entered into SPSS for exploratory data analysis and reliability studies of the instrument before performing specific analyses for answering the research questions.;Results. The results of the research showed that the relationship between spirituality and global citizenship was significant and positive. However, the relationship between religion and global citizenship in this sample turned out to be negative but insignificant. The results of the research further indicated that none of the independent variables, age, educational aspirations, parents' educations, and gender was significantly related to religion, spirituality, or global citizenship. However, different religious denominations did differ in their approach toward spirituality and global citizenship. Also gender did matter when responding to some specific items of religion, spirituality, and global citizenship.
