Abstract/Summary:
This is a qualitative study conducted for a dissertation to investigate the corporate strategic moves of a corporation while Turkey negotiates its formal accession into the European Union (EU). Tariffs were removed on commodities and industrial goods when Turkey joined the European Customs Union (CU) on January 1, 1996. The accession of Turkey into the EU is expected to create a total tariff free trade between Turkey and the other EU countries. After going through a transitional and adaptation period for the CU integration, the business community is preparing their companies to embrace the full EU integration of Turkey. Corporate behavior during Turkish accession negotiations and economic consequences of possible EU membership of Turkey is the focus of this study.
