Abstract/Summary:
This study investigates the reason Generation X and non-Generation X information technology professionals have been leaving their organizations after three to five years, resulting in increased costs due to rehiring, retraining, and loss of skill sets and knowledge. Retention of employees should be a primary concern for organizations because it keeps the correct skill sets within the business while cutting employee replacement costs. Organizations tend to replace individuals instead of understanding the motivators behind their decisions to leave. Following a mixed-method approach, the researcher surveyed 52 professionals and interviewed 20 volunteer respondents. The study findings suggest that the motivators of voluntary employee turnover in this sample were lack of organizational loyalty and trust, poor leadership communication, and maintaining technology.
