Abstract/Summary:
The researcher analyzed current methods of succession planning in member churches of two nonprofit ministerial alliances in an effort to identify ways for senior pastors to finish well, ensuring a positive legacy of consistent leadership. The experiences of senior pastors affiliated with the Full Gospel Fellowship of Churches and Ministers International-African Division and the Association of Evangelical Gospel Assemblies-Ghanaian Division were used to help the researcher identify themes emergent from the experiences of pastors as they managed transition, trained their successors, and prepared their congregations for new leadership. Though no singular succession plan was identified as a model, the emergent themes were found helpful in guiding a pastor or a church to develop a customized succession plan.
