Abstract/Summary:
Making Godly leadership decisions on a day to day basis would seem to be something that any Church leader would both be able to do and desirous of doing. Yet, while the desire is there, there is a frustration on the ability side. It is not lack of hard work or of education or of commitment that seems to be at the root of the frustration. Instead, this project proposes to show first that there is a lack of clarity about how leadership is different in the corporate and church contexts. Then this work will address the lack of knowledge about how one takes a Godly approach to making decisions that influence the life of the people of God in the context of the church.; This project is my effort to identify the root of the inability of the modern church to both see and address the leadership differences and methods that exist between leadership in modern day business and leadership in the Church.; There are vast differences between a corporate worldview and the Biblically-based worldview that should characterize the church. So different are these perspectives and lenses for viewing reality that leadership has to be understood and practiced very differently in the different settings. In addition, there is a substantial and fundamental difference between what the church and the corporate world see as a successful bottom line. This difference is so great that the leadership process and principles of the two organizations are fundamentally different. When the church fails to see and guard against this fundamental difference, it opens itself up to losing its identity as the Body of Christ. It simply becomes another corporation that happens to carry a somewhat spiritual label and banner.; Jesus really was the greatest leader of all time. His example, and the examples that the Bible highlight for us of Godly leaders provide a basis and a guide for how we are to think about and practice leadership in the life of the church of God today.
