Policy and decision makers in global organizations continue to cite the need for changes within the business environment that influence the needs in the information technology (IT) arena. Success of IT innovation adoption models is focused on the commitments made by chief executive officers (CEO), chief information officers (CIO), managers, technology analysts and leaders of IT organizations on a unified innovation adoption model. An existing general problem is that petrochemical companies operating internationally adopt and implement more IT innovation projects versus petrochemical companies operating primarily within the United States (US). The purpose of this quantitative study was to evaluate the adoption of IT innovation and IT investment practices within petrochemical industry, with a focus on internationally operated subsidiaries. The findings of the study indicated the lack of business sponsorship has no influence on IT innovation adoption within petrochemical organizations outside the US. The study also found that increased organizational productivity does not directly influence IT innovation projects investments within petrochemical organizations outside the US. The limitations of this study and suggestions for future research are discussed.
