| This study examines the relationship between social entrepreneurship and organizational effectiveness. Social entrepreneurship has received increased attention from both researchers and practitioners in the social sector. Social entrepreneurship is a new approach to nonprofit management that focuses on innovation, proactiveness, and risk-taking, and it has been touted by some as the best method for combating social ills. The question of this study is whether or not it is effective. More specifically, do organizations that exhibit higher scores for social entrepreneurship behavior also exhibit higher scores for organizational effectiveness? An instrument developed by Dr. Scott Helm is used to measure social entrepreneurship behavior, and an instrument developed by Dr. Valerie Blackmon is used to measure organizational effectiveness. In addition to the relationship between social entrepreneurship and organizational behavior, analysis is done on the relationship between social entrepreneurship and two sub-components of organizational effectiveness: mission achievement and financial efficiency. Research shows these components are two of the most important when looking at effectiveness. The study confirmed a significant positive relationship exists between social entrepreneurship and organizational effectiveness as well as between social entrepreneurship and mission achievement. The data did not support a significant relationship between social entrepreneurship and financial efficiency. As social entrepreneurship behavior increases in an organization, the tendency for organizational effectiveness and mission achievement also increases. |
