Cellulase is one of the most important enzymes used in textile processing. In studies of cellulose hydrolysis it has been reported that an important factor on the kinetics of the hydrolysis reaction is the effect of products of reaction on the hydrolysis rate. In this study, the nature of this effect was investigated. It was statistically shown that the products of reaction inhibited the hydrolysis reaction. The products of reaction competitively competed with the substrate for the enzyme.; The effect of varying flow rates in a test reaction vessel on the hydrolysis reaction was also investigated. At higher flow rates the efficiency of hydrolysis increased. Finally, diffusion equation solutions of Hill and Newman and an empirical equation were used to characterize the cellulose-cellulase system. |
