Abstract/Summary:
Natural systems abound with examples of exquisite discrimination between very similar substrates such as oligopeptides. A more thorough understanding of this phenomenon would greatly benefit synthetic, seperative and diagnostic sciences. This work deals with the design and development of small sequence selective synthetic receptors and their conversion into efficient chemosensors. Furthermore, combinatorial libraries of these chemosensors were produced and screened against various substrates in an attempt to create a methodology for quick identification of chemosensors for any given oligopeptide. Through this screening process small synthetic chemosensors were identified for two tripeptides.
