| Analysis from the cognitive perspective of the theory of Relevance (Sperber and Wilson 1986, 1995) and from Gutt's (2000) proposals about different pragmatic aspects present in the translation for the dubbing and adaptation of war films and films with a military background. We focus (relevance theory-based translation) on the comparison of interpretations, not on formal correspondence translation.; We include several aspects related to this subject: translation for dubbing of standardized military expressions (formulaic expressions), which are processed by the audience on the basis of the communicative clues provided by these expressions, rather than for the meaning contained in its propositional form. We examine the translator's creation of a new "military slang"---which we label as "pseudo professional"---fully accepted by the Spanish audience. We also include an analysis of the translation of military radio telephone standardized messages, these being, a clear example of the use of standard expressions with a unique semantic content already familiar to the listener. The translation for dubbing of "military courtesy" expressions is also contemplated. These must be seen as a system that the members of this collective use to distance themselves in their professional relationships. Finally, an analysis is included of the orders uttered either in imperative mode or in any other way.; As a whole we can state that the translation for dubbing war films and films with a military background is too formal; the representative lexis lacks naturalness, with military connotations that come across as stronger than necessary. |
