Today’s world is at an important phase of “Globalization”, and world economy develops in an all-around way. As a result, opportunities of multinational cooperation and communication are increasing. As the economic cooperation is constantly enhanced, different cultures around world also interact with and merge into each other frequently. Thanks to the increasing openness of our society, people in China have various means to know the world without going abroad, among which multimedia is one of the most essential approaches for people to get to the world. As the significant forms of multimedia, Films and TV programs are also the most intuitive and the easiest ways of cultural transmission, which are broadly accepted by Chinese people. However, because there are great differences between Chinese and English languages, translation process is indispensable. At present, the two main forms of films and TV programs translation in the field are “Dubbing Translation” and “Subtitle Translation”. Nevertheless, today the development of “Subtitle Translation” and “Dubbing Translation” study is not balanced. According to the statistical fact, the number of the research papers on “Subtitle Translation” in Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI) during 2005 to 2014 has increased rapidly, accounting for almost 80% of all the papers on film translation. On the contrary, studies on “Dubbing Translation” are far more under-emphasized. In fact “dubbing film” is not only an effective method to transmit foreign cultures but the treasure of Chinese Film Art, so it’s high time for us to lay much more attention to it.The thesis conducts a comprehensive comparative study on “Subtitle Translation” and “Dubbing Translation” in aspects as audiences, translation expectation, translation limit, translation standards, language features, language expression, translation strategies election and so on, through which the writer sums up the unique features and difficulties of “Dubbing Translation”. The main difficulties of “Dubbing Translation” are as follows: lip-syncing, differences in languages and culture, and untranslatability, lose of the script, Translation text colloquialization and standardiz. Then, aiming at solving the four main difficulties of Dubbing Translation and combined with the case study of both the Dubbing Translation and the Subtitle Translation of the film, “Today You Die”, which is translated by the writer during her internship in Shanghai Film Dubbing Studio, the thesis also puts forward some practical and feasible countermeasures and translation techniques to deal with the major difficulties of “Dubbing Translation”. The writer does hope the thesis can provide a new research direction and practical experience for the “Dubbing Translation”, and attract more focus on this field.
