Abstract/Summary:
This study examines the similarities and differences of communication goals and objectives between management and employees. The literature review includes the history of organizational communication, various theorist definitions of organizational communication, and the role of strategic communication in organizations. Also, several topics that organizations face daily are explored in the review surrounding change, persuasion, jargon and technology. The basic research design tool used in the study is focus groups. The study explains focus group background and definition, the appropriateness of focus groups, keys to success, and the benefits and limitations of focus groups. The procedure is administered at plant facilities interviewing groups of employees at various levels in the organization. All feedback is captured and is analyzed for similarities and differences. The outcomes are captured. The results of this study indicate that all those involved are not receiving the same amount of information, nor do all the participants understand the information at the same level. Although communication practices within certain parts of the organization have some 'best practices', it is clear there is room for improvement across the board. The study also offers GM suggestions for improvement, as well as makes recommendations on further research areas to be considered.
