Abstract/Summary:
Chinese churches in North America face many challenges, including the need to accommodate a multi-lingual membership, reconcile discrepancies in the perspectives and lives of American-born Chinese and overseas-born Chinese, and bridge the cultural differences between immigrants from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and different parts of Asia. The additional challenge of serving a highly heterogeneous congregation causes leadership development to be an especially complex undertaking. To continue accomplishing Jesus' Great Commission in North America, Chinese churches in North America urgently need an effective leadership development strategy for raising up new lay leaders. Since both biblical teaching and secular literature echo the importance of effective leadership development, the researcher's main focus in conducting this doctoral project is to offer an effective leadership development strategy to the church.
